The following student announcements appeared in one or more Daily Bulletins during the past week. They are listed here as a service to parents who are interested in knowing more about day-to-day activities at HHS.

1998: George Wallace, one of the most controversial politicians in US history, dies at age 79

1901: US President William McKinley dies after being shot by a deranged anarchist
1901: Theodore Roosevelt is suddenly elevated to the White House with President McKinley dies
1982: Princess Grace of Monaco, the American-born former film star, Grace Kelly, dies at age 52
 
On This Day In History:
1857: Future President William Taft is born
1978: Boxer Muhammad Ali defeats Leon Spinks to win the world heavyweight boxing title for the third time in his career.
 
On This Day In History:
1620: The Mayflower sails from Plymouth, England, bound for the New World with 102 passengers
1908: Buick Motor Company head William Durant spends $2,000 to incorporate General Motors

Interested in tutoring? Have a free period at the end of the day?
The Public School Success Team (PSST) is looking for student volunteers to work with
* 5th graders at Fitch on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2
:30-3:30
* 6th graders at HJHS on Tuesdays from 1:30-2:30
This is a GREAT way to help younger students be successful in school and to earn community service hours!
 
This week, both St. Mary’s College and the Savannah College of Art and Design will be speaking ~ sign up if interested and call slips will be sent out that day
 
Last chance for Freshman elections! Sign ups and packets to run for office are in the main office.
 

JUNIORS
You made it through half of your high school career! The PSAT, practice SAT, is being given Wednesday, October 13, 2010, from 9:00am - 12:00am. Sign up in the counseling office. The fee is $18 until Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, and then it will go up to $20. We are seeing more and more of our students going directly to four-year colleges. Any student planning to attend a four-year college should take this test to prepare for the SAT. These tests are required for most college admissions.
 

SOPHOMORES
Welcome back after what seemed like a very short summer but really was not!The PLAN (practice ACT) is being offered to Sophomores Thursday, October 21, 2010. Sophomores thinking about college should take this test. The PLAN gives each student good practice in taking college placement tests and allows us to sit down with scores and grade point averages and do evaluations of college eligibility. Signups will start soon in the counseling office.


 

CLUBS
Guitar jam every Friday at lunch in Room 70. All levels welcome.
 
Come play chess every Thursday at lunch in Room 70. All levels welcome. If you don't know how to play we will teach you.
